Personal Development at Oxted School
Personal Development at Oxted School is designed to ensure that all students leave us equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling adult lives.
We encourage every student to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences within and beyond the curriculum. Through these opportunities, students learn to recognise their own value, develop a strong sense of identity and play an active role in our school community. In doing so, they gain positive skills and habits that support both their school journey and their wider life. Our programme is inclusive, ensuring that all students can access and benefit from these experiences.
Our Five Strands of Personal Development
Students engage with a broad and age‑appropriate curriculum built around five key strands:
- Physical and mental wellbeing
- British values and citizenship
- Careers and futures education, advice and guidance
- Online safety
- Relationships and sex education (RSHE)
How Students Access Personal Development
Personal Development is delivered through two main routes:
Tutor Time Sessions:
Throughout the year, each year group studies three core themes:
- Careers education
- Metacognition (learning and revision strategies)
- RSHE (Relationships, Health and Sex Education)
Drop‑Down Days:
Students also take part in four drop‑down days annually. These days offer a wide range of workshops, activities and talks run by staff and external specialists, tailored to the needs of each age group and key stage.
