Intent
The overarching intent of the Social Science curriculum has been developed with Oxted School’s whole school curriculum intent in mind.
Key areas of focus are developing student knowledge with a contextual lens. Focus on developing the student as a ‘whole’ where attention within the curriculum is given to the development of skills, conceptual thinking and the expansion of cultural capital and subject content. Developing interested and passionate learners who have a sound understanding of the substantive content of the course and an interest in the disciplinary developments within the subject area, along with the development of skills that lead to the ’employability’ of the student, is the overarching aim of the Social Science faculty at Oxted School.
At Oxted School, students develop an awareness that the Social Sciences permeate all aspects of their lives, such as their careers, social lives and hobbies. The school equips students with the knowledge and skills to become responsible citizens who contribute to the local community.
