Health & Social Care

Intent

A good understanding of Health and Social Care is vital in today’s society. Students will build and improve their communication skills, and the way individuals develop within this course will open many doors and opportunities in various areas of life. It also provides them with life skills that are transferable to many other courses.

There are strong links to Sociology, Psychology, and Childcare, as well as aspects of mathematics such as data interpretation and analysis. Aspects of geography and strong links to science are all within this course. Human lifespan development enables them to understand how individuals develop and the factors that might affect their development. There will be a focus on the provision of care and caring skills, inclusion and diversity, values, and services, as well as physiological indicators and factors that affect health and wellbeing.

Working in health and social care exposes students to a wide range of career opportunities and allows them to develop interpersonal skills that will help them build relationships with individuals at all stages of life. They will become very aware of safeguarding and confidentiality across the spectrum of care settings. This will provide a sound base for working in any organisation and allow them to relate well with their teachers and peers.
