Personal Development

Personal Development at Oxted School is designed to ensure that out students can leave school with the skills to lead happy and fulfilling adult lives.

All our students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum. In doing so, students learn to recognise their own worth, develop a sense of their own identity and take an active role in our school community. Students develop positive skills in the process, benefitting their school life and beyond.  We aim to ensure that opportunities are inclusive and that all our students experience these principles and practices.

Through our personal development programme students engage with diverse topics under these five strands:

  • Physical and mental wellbeing
  • British values and citizenship
  • Careers and futures education, advice and guidance
  • Online safety
  • Relationships and sex education

Students take part in personal development during tutor time and have four drop-down days throughout the school year.

During drop-down days students will engage with a range of internal and external activities and speakers, appropriate to their age group and key stage.

Each year groups will focus on three different topics during tutor time, these are:

  • Careers
  • Metacognition (learning and revision strategies)
  • RSHE (Relationships, Health and Sex Education)

Our curriculum is planned using guidance and resources from the DfE, the PSHE Association, Life Lessons and Unifrog.

If you would like to discuss personal development or discuss any of these topics in more detail, please contact Mrs King.
