Curriculum Intent & Vision

‘The curriculum is ambitious and effectively sequenced to reflect what pupils already know and can do’. Ofsted, February 2022
The Howard Partnership Trust will bring out the best by providing a rich experience both within and beyond the classroom.
This will enable all our young people to thrive personally and academically, overcome challenges, and make a positive contribution to society.
Curriculum Fundamentals
- The curriculum must be broad and balanced throughout, with the opportunity to study the arts, languages, technology and sport at KS4
- PSHE, RS and the wider curriculum are core components of students’ personal development and must be delivered effectively
- The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all students’ and offer appropriate progression routes
- We embrace our responsibility to ensure our students achieve the best possible academic outcomes
- The curriculum must be demonstrably affordable
- Students who have the greatest barriers to success will have their needs prioritised in terms of curriculum and staff deployment
- Class groupings and setting promote students’ self-esteem, alongside learning and progress. Rationales should be clear and defensible
At Oxted School we are ambitious for all our students and conscious of the competitive world they will shortly enter. With that in mind, we aim to offer every student the opportunity to access a broad and balanced curriculum that empowers them to strive for excellence and meet the challenges ahead.
Our Curriculum Aims
Students at Oxted should have:
- An excellent knowledge of, and the skills to, fully understand complex concepts in different subject disciplines that go beyond received specifications
- A rich vocabulary so they can express themselves
- A love of reading so they can continue their learning beyond formal education
- The ability to transfer knowledge, skills and understanding to different contexts
- Strong numerical knowledge and skills
- Found a passion for a subject(s) that they can take into the wider world
- Fun at school by engaging in a broad range of experiences within and beyond classrooms
The curriculum is timetabled in a ten-day cycle of 50, one hour lessons. The size of our school enables us to cover a wide range of courses and meet students’ individual needs and aptitudes more easily.
