What will students study at Key Stage 5?

Year 12: Education with research methods and families/households build the theoretical toolkit, with contemporary exemplification central to class debate and writing.

Year 13: Crime & deviance with theory/methods plus a second option (e.g., media/beliefs) drive synoptic argumentation and evaluative conclusions.

What do assessments test?

  • AO1: Knowledge/understanding of sociological theories/concepts/methods
  • AO2: Application to issues and contexts
  • AO3: Analysis/evaluation to construct arguments and draw conclusions

What are the expectations of my child in this subject?

Attend all lessons, meet deadlines, keep high‑quality notes, and use independent study effectively (at least the Sixth Form expectation per subject). Build habits of spaced retrieval, interleaved practice and regular past‑paper work.
