What will students study at Key Stage 4?

Year 10: Ensemble and solo performance routines are embedded; composition to brief/free tasks and set areas of study are explored through focused listening and theory. Informal performances develop confidence and musical communication.

Year 11: Two compositions and performance portfolio are completed to specification requirements; appraising preparation emphasises targeted listening, context recall and analytical writing.

What do assessments test?

  • Performance: assessed recital(s)
  • Composition: portfolio meeting brief requirements
  • Appraising: written/listening paper on set areas of study
