What will students study at Key Stage 4?

Year 10: Particle model, atomic structure, periodicity and bonding/structure underpin quantitative chemistry and chemical changes (electrolysis, acids/alkalis). Energetics and introductory rates are developed through controlled practicals with attention to precision and anomalies.

Year 11: Topics extend to rates & equilibrium, organic chemistry, chemical analysis and the atmosphere/resources. Multi-step moles/calorimetry tasks and practical evidence are integrated into extended responses.

What do assessments test?

  • AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures
  • AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding to new contexts and practical situations
  • AO3: Analyse, interpret and evaluate information and ideas, including in the context of required practicals

What are the expectations of my child in this subject?
