Match Report Y8 Rugby - Tuesday 26 November

oxted v Thamesmead

surrey plate cup

final score 31 - 0

The game started with Oxted playing some flowing rugby, and it was not long before Sam Regan made a trade mark break from centre to score his first try (Sammy Carlisle converted). Minutes later Owen Thurston powered over the line to make the score 12 - 0.  Oxted were dominating the opposition in every aspect of the game, and looked the more experienced with structure to their game. This was evident when Rhys Clutterbuck gathered a loose kick and made the initial break before off-loading to Sam Regan who skilfully drew the last defender before giving the final pass to James Bruce to outpace the covering defence to touch down.

With the second half fast approaching some excellent Oxted inter-play created a try for Rhys Clutterbuck. Almost every Oxted player touched the ball and deftly off-loaded the ball either before contact or out of the tackle to create the space for Rhys to get his first try of the game. Half time score 26 - 0.

The second half was a different story. Some assertive refereeing and Oxted in discipline led to Thamesmead being camped in our 22m line. However they lacked the creativity to break down a very strong Oxted defence, despite having countless penalties in front of our posts. Thamesmead were luring us into a close quarter battle and staring us of any decent possession. Oxted eventually let loose with an almost length of the field try that was eventually finished by Rhys Clutterbuck.

Oxted progress through to the next round.
