Oxted School Remembers

Remembrance Sunday Parade in Oxted

Below you can read a piece about the event written by Hannah Gauntlett, Head Girl at Oxted School.

Zak and I were invited to join the Remembrance Sunday Parade through Oxted on Sunday 10 November.  It was a huge honour to represent the school and lay a wreath on behalf of all students and staff. At 11 o'clock we vowed a 2 minute silence next to those with extremely poignant connections to the armed forces, but also so many of Oxted's community who had come down to show their respect and support.

A humbling and down to earth service from the Reverend Andrew Rumsey in the beautiful St Mary's Church really touched the hearts of everyone who attended, with several hymns performed by the church choir.

We were so amazed to hear that this year 360,000 Royal British Legion poppies were assembled in Oxted! That's around 1% of all poppies made!! The dedication the 40 volunteers maintained to raise money for armed forces charities is inspirational, and I feel proud to be part of a community that shows such compassion.
