Senior Prize Giving Ceremony

Oxted School’s annual Senior Prize Giving Ceremony took place in the Main Hall on Thursday 26 September 2013 at 7pm. Oxted School’s String Group greeted guests and students as they arrived at the event. 

The evening was an opportunity to acknowledge and praise students’ achievements, and to thank parents and teachers who have helped them this year. Students received a wide range of prizes including Subject Achievement prizes, House Prizes, the Margaret McNaughton Creative Writing Cup, the Elements Award, the Dr Arthur Sambles Memorial Prize and Mathematics Challenge Prizes. 

The evening started with a welcome from Oxted School’s Chair of Governors, Mr Brian Taylor, and Mrs Nicola Euridge, Head of School. Guests then enjoyed readings from students who spoke about a few of the exciting events that have taken place at Oxted School over the past year.  

Firstly, Year 12 students, Laura Brown, Isabella Marcantonio-Houghton, Jordan Rycraft and Chris Zabilowicz spoke about the day they switched roles with teachers during Rule the School in March. Alice Williams told her inspiring story about her family’s Matthew’s Friends charity, and Kate Mesher and Archan Mohile talked about their experience of a lifetime in Uganda which they embarked on over the summer.

Oxted School were delighted to welcome 2012 Paralympic Games Gold Medallist and former Oxted School student, Helena Lucas MBE, as guest speaker for the evening. Helena talked about her sailing career and the training leading up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games. She showed the audience her Gold Medal and spoke about the amazing achievement of being the only female competing in the 2.4mR event at the Games.
