Mobile Phones / Electronic Devices Update

We have reviewed and updated our mobile phone policy. As a school we feel that it is for the benefit for both the students and staff that we remain a no mobile phone school during school hours. We understand that the majority of students have mobile phones and when used appropriately can enable valuable communication with parents and carers after school, to liaise over train or bus delays for example.  However, we feel that on entry to the school at 8.40am mobile phones and any other electronic devices (head phones etc) should be turned off and placed into lockers or school bags until the end of the school day at 3.20pm. This will allow both staff and students to focus in lessons and concentrate on learning. This will also permit students to socialise in their free time by talking and interacting with their peers at break and lunch times.

With effect from Monday 11 April Oxted School will apply the following rules regarding student use of mobile phones:

  • No mobile phones or other electronic devices (including head phones) to be used in school from 8.40am-3.20pm
  • All students will start on a clean slate i.e. no previous offences
  • If staff see students with mobile phones or other electronic devices then they will be confiscated on sight
  • Teachers can permit mobile phone use in lessons if it will aid students’ learning
  • Sixth form students are permitted to use mobile devices as a privilege

If students are not adhering to this they will be sanctioned in the following ways:
