Match Report Y11 Football - Tuesday 10 September

de Stafford School v Oxted School

2 – 4

The rivalry certainly has not gone away between these two sides. Oxted are yet to be defeated by a De Stafford side. However a very confident performance in the end by the Y11 football team to start the new season off with a win.

In the first half Oxted played some very smart football, linking short passes in the midfield and forwards. Unfortunately the only thing that was missing was the final ball. That was until Harry Bater put us one up with a good piece of play. The second came after a good spell of play by De Stafford, who themselves could have sneaked a lucky goal. Oxted broke on the counter and Dillon Barker found himself in acres of space. Instead of taking his time and running the ball closer to goal for an easy shot, he put his head over the ball and rifled it past a stranded De Stafford goalkeeper.

Oxted started very slow in the second half. Allowing De Stafford time to get their heads down and pass the ball. This resulted in a couple of chances, fortunately these came to nothing, until Oxted goalkeeper was adjudged to have handled the ball outside his area. De Stafford’s midfielder stepped up and with the aid of a deflection the ball was in Oxted’s net - 2-1.

Oxted reacted well to this. They started playing neat football and were rewarded with a couple of half chances and a corner. Jake Treagus delivered a perfect ball into the 6-yard area that had the De Stafford defence scrambling. Two players got in the way of each other and bundled the ball over the line - 3-1.

Oxted continued to take control of the game. The only time De Stafford made it into our box, Bradley Dell, bundled the attacker over with a lazy shoulder barge. Penalty. This was basted over the bar and Oxted looked home and dry.

The result was compounded when Adam Miller delivered a great ball into the area and this was headed smartly across the keeper, who couldn’t quite get enough behind it to prevent it crossing the line.

A good result with room for improvement. Man of the Match was Jake Treagus for his commitment and determination to chase and work for the whole game. Well done Y11’s.  I am looking forward to a successful season.
