Oxted School Remembers

At 11.00am on Wednesday 11 November 2015, Oxted School fell silent to remember those whose lives were taken during the war.

A service of remembrance was held at 10.45am on the decking.  Following an introduction by Mrs Euridge, Head of Oxted School, Head Boy Jamie Patterson read ‘Owen, Anthem for Doomed Youth’.  Deputy Head Boy, Peter Harber and Deputy Head Girl Megan Saunders read out the names of the Oxted students who died in World War 2.

Year 13 student Bridie Wakeford, dressed in her Air Cadet uniform read The Ode.  The Last Post was played by Year 11 student Ruth Field, who after the two minutes’ silence place The Reveille.  Head Girl Harriet Firth read the poem ‘Duffy, Last Post’ and service finished with the Oxted School Brass Group (performing ‘Abide with Me’.

Staff and students attended the service and students looked on from classroom windows on what was a very moving service.
