U13 Boys Hockey Match Report - Thursday 5 March 2015

final score - LND 2 - 1 Oxted

The team had to pick themselves up after a difficult and frustrating first fixture against RGS. They maintained their structure and positions, cutting out a number of Notre Dame attacks early on. This made life difficult for the Notre Dame midfield.

In the heart of defence Tim Bochard and James Galloway made a series of bold interceptions, picking up the ball, sending it to the wide players. Louie Lovering in goal made a number of brave saves, standing tall throughout the game when Notre Dame looked dangerous. Tim in particular stood firm, making a series of important challenges.

Tom Cracknell and Tom Gosling were kept busy on the flanks but they maintained their composure and slowly pushed forward. The link up play in midfield had improved dramatically with Ben Irons and Antony Dalyrmple making a number of triangle passes, pushing forward, relieving the pressure on the defence.

The team gained in confidence as the game progressed and the forwards such as Max Brett, Benjamin Dudley, Oscar Warren and Zac Crosswell started to play with more freedom, troubling the Notre Dame defence. In wide areas Tommy Eels and Matthew Hosp intercepted a number of passes, looking to release the ball early to the forward line.

After conceding just before half time the boys remained patient. They conceded another goal mid-way through the second half but then Ben Irons struck after a pinpoint cross from Antony Dalyrmple. Ben had to keep his composure and managed to tuck the ball away.

This performance will have raised the confidence of the team and other teams in Surrey will find it tough to break them down.
