After a confident victory the week before at Cranbrook School, the team travelled the short distance to Merton to face Richard Challoner.

Challoner started the stronger of the two sides, picking up momentum and were camped in Oxted’s 22m line. Some excellent defensive tackling by full back Oli Evans prevented two certain tries. Poor kicking put Oxted in trouble, and Challoner opened the scoring with the first try of the game. Harry Hardisty made three effective breaks from inside our own half but a lack of support saw the opportunity squandered.

Oxted eventually achieved parity and took the lead with a driving maul from a line out, with captain Max McAuliffe going over for Oxted’s first try. Oxted were now linking well and our support play and off-load game were causing the opposition countless problems. Tom Corbett scored his second 60m try is as many weeks, when his pace out stripped the opposition back line. Owen Hulme, who was powerful and dynamic all day, ran from a penalty and crashed over, shortly followed by Sam Regan who cut through the defensive line to score.

A shell shocked Challoner had little time to recover before Owen Hulme stormed through the covering defence to score his second try of the match.

Challoner scored the final try of the game to make the score 19 – 32 victory to Oxted.

Well done boys!
