Oxted School help set a new Guinness World Record

Oxted School have helped set a new Guinness World Records title for ‘Most people to write a story (multiple venues)’. The exciting event took place on Wednesday 6 February to celebrate National Libraries Day.

Award-winning author, Matt Haig, wrote the beginning of a story called ‘My Family and Other Aliens’ and 60 Oxted School students in Year 7 and Year 8 took to the school library to complete it in one hour.

The current record for the most people to write a story is 953 participants and Oxted School, along with 69 schools across the UK, has beaten that record with a fantastic 3217 participants. The new record has been entered onto the Guinness World Records Database as follows: ‘The most people writing a story at multiple venues is 3217 participants, across 69 different venues, and was achieved by UK School Librarians and their students during an event organised by Barbara Band, on 6 February 2013.’

Well done everyone who was involved!
