Match Report Y8 Rugby – Saturday 6 September

Oxted school v Glyn School

final score - 0 - 55

Team:
Sam Evans, Jarvis K, Dougie Saunders, Fin C, Josh Strange, Tom Mullen, Matt G, Kit B, Ben Hogan (Captain), Nathan Hogan, Harry Fisher, Lewis Arnold, Chris Bell, Jack Dibble, Tom White

The game kicked off and instantly Glyn showed their physicality by commanding the breakdown and showing excellent handling skills. It was not long before their powerful centre crossed the white-wash for the first of many tries.

It was evident that Oxted had taken a long season off and a lack of organisation defensively and some lack lustre tackling certainly flattered a dominant Glyn side. The opposition relentlessly exploited gaps in the Oxted defence and scored some excellent team and individual tries. Oxted, who were missing five key players, had to persevere and ‘dig deep’ which Ben Hogan (Captain) epitomised by frequently bringing down much larger opponents. Lewis Arnold also made some excellent last ditch tackles on the left wing, as did Tom White at full back.

Glyn were well deserved winners and there was a gulf between the two sides in physicality, speed and structure. Oxted need to re-group in preparation for their second game of the season against Lingfield Notre Dame on Tuesday 9 September.
