OXTED STUDENTS WIN SCIENCE COMPETITIONS

Congratulations to our Year 8 and Year 12 students who won two separate science competitions at the end of April.

On Tuesday 29 April 2014, Year 8 students, Jake Hobson (8FV), Jonathan Bryne (8GE), Max Power (8FV) and Nathaniel Bateman (8SS) won the Salter’s Challenge at the Salter's Festival of Chemistry at the University of Surrey where they had to complete a forensics report during chromatography analysis.

On Wednesday 30 April, Oxted School’s team of Year 12 chemistry students, Laura Brown (12GT), Lizzie Ratsma (12FC) and Jordan Rycraft (12TP) won a two-part Analytical Chemistry Challenge at the University of Greenwich. The students performed analytical techniques including UV spectroscopy and titrations to enable them to calculate results for a written report.

The Year 12 students successfully won the competition and will now travel to the University of Central Lancashire on Monday 23 June 2014 to compete in the National finals.
