After a long delay for kick off as Fullbrook were delayed in traffic on the M25 the game started well with Sam Regan scoring in the first few minutes. Fullbrook then returned with a try of their own to level the score at 7-7. The teams looked very evenly matched with both teams showing some powerful running and exploiting a lapse defence. Fullbrook No 8, who was dangerous throughout the game, showed an excellent turn of pace to outstrip the Oxted tacklers for Fullbrook’s second try.

After some good forward work close to the line Owen Hulme touched down to make the half time score 17-19 to Fullbrook. The semi-final was on a knife edge.

At half time Oxted re-grouped and discussed new tactics to keep the ball alive in the contact area and offer greater support for each other to starve the Fullbrook power runners of any ball.

The second half showed Oxted to deliver on these tactics, with some excellent interplay, passing out of the tackle and efficient clearing out at the rucks, we gained the majority of the possession and quickly turned this into points with an excellent try from pacey centre James Bruce. Harry Hardisty scored and then Sam Regan went over for his second try.

Oxted were really commanding the game at this point and Fullbrook were left chasing the game as we put together phase after phase of attacking play. George Walker went over from close range after an excellent break from Rhys Clutterbuck that was quickly followed by man of the match James Bruce who scored a scorching second try from long range. Charlie Watkins also scored a final opportunistic try from the base of a ruck to make the final score 51-26 to Oxted.

On to the final!

Man of the match: James Bruce
