Science TeenTech Trip and Construction, Design and Engineering Event

TeenTech

Two groups of ten Year 8 students attended the fantastic TeenTech event at the Surrey Sports Park on Wednesday 13 November 2013. The event was hosted by former Tomorrow's World presenter, Maggie Philbin.

The objective was to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to students, demonstrating how vital these subjects are to future development and showing how they fit into a wide range of exciting career opportunities.

Students designed a novel phone app in the Innovation Zone, took part in a company challenge in the Challenge Zone and visited company stands in the Insight Zone. In addition, students were encouraged to write their ideas for improving life on the ‘ideas wall’.

Construction, Design and Engineering Event

A group of 8 students attended a Gifted and Talented Construction, Design and Engineering event at the Royal Albert and Alexandra School in Reigate in October 2013.

Students were split into different teams and had the challenge of building a bridge with only sellotape, paper and paper fasteners. The bridge had to span a meter gap and the one bearing the most weight was declared the winner.

Our students enjoyed the challenge and worked well with students from other schools in their teams. They also enjoyed meeting ambassadors from the construction industry.
